Why This Role Matters: In this role, you’re not just another energy consultant – you're building the future workforce that will transform how building energy systems perform. As a Building Energy Consultant and Technical Trainer within our Building Operations, Decarbonization & Efficiency (BODE) team in NYC, you’ll wear two hats: Technical training educator and consultant.

  • Trainer: You’ll teach building professionals – from facility managers to junior engineers – through in-person and virtual instruction, giving them the real skills to tackle energy goals. You’ll help shape what and how we teach, creating training materials, and mentoring junior colleagues as they become educators themselves.
  • Consultant: Depending on your experience and interest, you’ll also have the chance to get your hands dirty with energy assessments, leading retrofit projects, commissioning buildings, and diving into field research on Domestic Hot Water (DHW) technology.

The proposed annual salary range for this position is $100,000 - $155,000 based on a 40-hour work schedule. The final salary may vary depending on confirmed job-related skills and experience.

Selected candidates will proceed to up to 2 additional rounds of interviews, with the final round including a 15–20-minute training provided by the candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and apply assessment tools to measure learning outcomes and training impact; gather and analyze feedback from participants and stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.?

  • Deliver in-person, virtual, and field-based training sessions to internal staff, external clients, and industry professionals, ensuring high engagement and knowledge retention.?

  • Mentor and support staff in developing and delivering training content, promoting knowledge sharing and instructional consistency across the team.?

  • Cultivate and manage relationships with clients, partners, and industry networks to strengthen collaboration, expand reach, and maintain relevance in a dynamic market.?

  • This is a cross-functional role with optional responsibilities based on candidate strengths and interests and the team’s needs.?

What You Bring:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience working in the field with HVAC systems in large multi-family or commercial buildings.

  • Prior teaching or training experience designing and delivering training for adult professionals, with an ability to translate complex technical information into clear and understandable content.

Skills:

  • Deep expertise in HVAC systems and emerging high-performance technologies.

  • Excellent communicator and engaging presenter able to explain complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.

  • Success leading and delivering multiple medium-sized projects including stakeholder and team coordination to ensure successful outcomes.

  • Ability to deliver both in-person and virtual training sessions that keep participants involved.

  • Advanced proficiency In MS Office Suite.

Bonus Skills / Experience:

  • Familiarity with NYC Local Laws related to energy and climate (LLs 84, 87, 95, and 97).

  • Familiarity with Energy Code and / or ASHRAE standards.

  • Familiarity with steam heating systems, electrification and deep energy retrofit concepts.

  • Bilingual, with Spanish preferred; additional languages are a plus.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

The employee may frequently be required to climb stairs, use elevators and exterior construction hoists, and may be exposed to cold and hot interior and exterior temperatures for extended periods of time (when in the field).

Travel Requirements: Local field visits in the NYC Metro area will be necessary (approximately 20%-30%).

Working Environment: Recent hires may be required to work in-office five days per week during onboarding, with potential for a flexible schedule after necessary training or supervisor approval; all team members are generally expected in the office at least three (3) days per week, with flexibility based on job duties and site work.
