About the Role:

Steven Winter Associates, Inc. (SWA) is looking for a dedicated sustainability intern for its Green Programs team within the Sustainable Building Services group. The successful candidate will primarily support projects pursuing LEED, WELL, and other third-party certification programs. The candidate will also be offered the opportunity to pursue a capstone research project during the internship.

This is part-time hourly, paid internship (< 2 years of experience). The proposed hourly rate for this position is $20.00 to $20.00 based on a 30 or less hours per week work schedule.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Interns will be assigned to project teams to work with experienced professionals on real projects and research related tasks. Responsibilities will vary but generally include:

• Assist staff on individual projects and research studies.
• Expand knowledge of sustainable building design strategies.
• Develop skills in research, project management, and report writing.
• Investigate various Pilot LEED credits and completing LEED documentation with supervision.
• Maintain green project metrics.
• Research regulatory compliance pathways for assigned projects.
• Organize file structures and prepare analysis and graphics for reports.
• Communicate clearly and actively participate in team meetings, as required.
• Create a capstone project on a single specialized topic of the candidate’s choosing, with an end of internship group presentation.

**Duties, responsibilities, and activities will likely change but changes to role will be discussed as they are desired / needed.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:

• Currently pursuing or completed associate’s or bachelor’s degree in sustainability, architecture, engineering, or a related field related to buildings or the built environment.
• Prior experience in sustainable buildings. *Examples may include a past internship, coursework or college / university project.
• Communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
• Self-motivated, innovative, and willing to take on new challenges.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:

• Sustainability, Architectural, and Building Lifecycle Analysis coursework or experience.
• Knowledge of LEED, WELL and Fitwel.
• Knowledge of construction practices.
• Knowledge of architectural best management practices
• Familiarity with reading construction documents.

Required Dates – Qualified candidates MUST be available for a part-time (<30 hours) work week from June 3^rd, 2024, through August 16^th, 2024, for 11 weeks.

Travel Required:

No travel is expected.

Working Environment:

Approximately 3-4 days will be spent in an office environment. The remainder of the duties will be performed virtually (approximately 1-2 days). Typical work hours will be 9am to 5pm M-F.
