Sustainable Buildings Internship

Why This Internship Matters: This internship supports our Sustainable Building Services (SBS) team with green building and wellness certification programs, including LEED BD+C, LEED CI, Fitwel, and WELL. Interns will assist project teams by reviewing construction documents, performing calculations and analysis, and preparing certification submissions. You’ll gain hands-on experience with commercial building systems, sustainability certification standards, and interdisciplinary design coordination on a variety of projects including commercial, institutional, and cultural buildings.

DETAILS:

  • This is an hourly paid internship. The proposed hourly rate for this position is $20.00 based on a 40-hour work schedule.
  • Required Dates: Qualified candidates MUST be available for a full-time work week (40 hours) from May 18th, 2026, through August 7th, 2026.
  • Office Location – New York City, NY

Responsibilities:

  • Review architectural, mechanical and landscape / civil drawings, specifications and contractor submittals for compliance with sustainability and wellness goals.
  • Prepare and organize certification documentation, calculations, and supporting materials.
  • Conduct research on building technologies, sustainability strategies, and embodied carbon.
  • Identify strategies to improve energy, water and carbon performance in commercial projects.
  • Coordinate with project teams, including architects, engineers and contractors to support sustainability goals and verification requirements.
  • Internal research projects based on needs of project managers.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing or completing a bachelor’s or master's degree in architectural engineering, architecture or buildings related field.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, specifications and submittals.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam.
  • Strong attention to detail with solid organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct independent research and manage multiple tasks in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Knowledge:

  • Coursework or experience in building science, energy efficiency, sustainability or high-performance design and construction.
  • Familiarity with commercial building systems.
  • Experience with LEED, WELL, or Fitwell documentation.
  • Credentials including LEED GA, LEED AP, WELL AP or Fitwel Ambassador.
  • Exposure to embodied carbon assessment and analysis modeling tools.

  • This internship is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates; Undergraduate applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university and be graduating in the Spring/Summer semester of 2026 or by Spring/Summer of 2027.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Limited local travel to client meetings or events may be required, typically via public transportation.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: All responsibilities will be performed in the office.
